The Challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the social and economy of society, including Indonesia. The vulnerable group is the most prone to the impact of the pandemic. In response to the pandemic’s impact, the United Nations, with the lead of UNICEF Indonesia, conducted the implementation of the COVID-19 Muti-Donor Trust Fund and Joint SDG Fund, focusing on social protection. This program supports the Government of Indonesia in improving the social protection framework, primarily to mitigate the pandemic impact and adopt innovative approaches to Adaptive Social Protection in a middle-income country that is highly prone to climate- related and other disasters. Social protection schemes and government resilience enhancement/ disaster preparedness programs have been developing along parallel tracks, with no high-level vision for how the two streams may be integrated. To ensure that existing social protection systems are more responsive to climate-related and other disasters, including pandemics. UNICEF Indonesia appoints ID COMM as a team lead of UN agencies to give assistance on communication, design, branding, and media relation to support program implementation from 1 January – 31 December 2021.
Our Approach
Understanding the objective of the program, the framework of Adaptive Social Protection (ASP), Studies and Researchers related to ASP, ID COMM assisted UNICEF Indonesia in translating those programs (research, policy recommendation, Social Protection Best Practices, etc.) into various communication products such as press release, video, photo, human interest story article, social media posts, and webinar or online discussion to advocate this framework to the related stakeholders such as Ministry of Social Affairs, Bappenas, Ministry of Village, Civil society and others relevant institution to adopt and support ASP framework including media as representative of the mass public.
The Result
During our work with UNICEF Indonesia, we generated communication products that UNICEF Indonesia and its stakeholders accepted well. It’s indicated by the program report acceptance by ministries, more attention from media to the program shown by a high number of coverages and well understanding.
